At Wieland Healthcare, designing with purpose doesn’t stop at the product. It extends to how we steward materials, invest in people, and care for the communities around us.
This summer, during a seasonal production slowdown, our sewing team took that mission to heart—transforming reclaimed upholstery fabric into nearly 120 custom backpacks for incoming kindergarteners in United Way of Allen County’s Kindergarten Countdown program. These handcrafted bags were filled with school supplies and delivered to students just in time for their first day of school.
As a business unit of Sauder Manufacturing, we’re proud to continue our commitment to sustainability through creative reuse. Every piece of fabric used in this project came from our own manufacturing process—repurposed with intention rather than discarded.
As 21Alive News reported, “Employees from [Sauder] put together custom-made backpacks with recycled material and filled them all with school supplies.” We’re proud to be the hands behind that work and to keep building a company culture where generosity and resourcefulness go hand in hand.
